Find yourself in lost wax.
To explore all the possibilities of lost wax carving would take a lifetime (and a well-spent one, too). But to fall in love with IT? That only takes a day.
This one-to-one crash course will give you a solid foundation in the techniques, tools and intricacies of lost wax carving - all with the aim of helping you build your own, unique jewellery practice.
It’s a chance to slow down, reflect, and enjoy the beauty around while creating some of your own.
Of course, your passion to create isn’t going to end when you leave the studio - and neither will the support you receive. I’ll remain available to you for a further two months of remote mentoring, to answer any questions you might have as you continue your journey.
Duration:
6 hours.
Price:
£395.
What you’ll learn:
First and foremost I hope you learn two things: that the possibilities for your practice are endless, and that you absolutely can bring those possibilities to life. But, to break it down a little, we’ll also cover:
The tools you need and how to use them, including saw blades, files, knives and heat pens.
How to work with different waxes.
Making and sizing a ring - as well as preparing it for casting.
The cast-in-place technique for stone setting.
Textures
Granulation
Wax injecting and making repeat patterns theory
Estimating costs.
Finishing and hallmarking.
Time and date:
Email me at studio@aniajewellery.com and we’ll find a day that works.
Location:
My workshop is located in PRAKTYKA, our art retreat in the North Devon village Buckland Brewer.
Accommodation:
If you want to make even more of your time here, stay with us. We have a range of spaces to choose from.
What’s included:
The tools and materials we’ll be using on the day are all provided, along with refreshments. And of course, I’ll give you all the information you need to set up your own practice at home
What isn’t included:
At this stage, we’ll be working in wax. Casting any pieces you create isn’t included in the cost of the workshop, but I’m more than happy to recommend local ethical casters.
The cost of casting will depend on the weight of the piece and material used, but a ring in sterling silver would be around £30, 9ct yellow gold would be about £150 and 18ct yellow gold would be 300+ (not including VAT).
We’ll weigh your piece in wax so you have a clear idea of the cost in metal.
